What to Watch...What to Not

WHAT TO WATCH...

Definitely ROLE MODELS!
Like everyone else, I wasn't expecting much from the previews. But boy was I happily surprised! It was definitely one of the BEST movies I've seen in a long, long time. I couldn't stop laughing and I don't think there was even one second where the film was wasted and felt dull.

On top of the laughs, I felt the screenplay was very well written. Good character development considering the genre, perfect climax, and the character changes were subtle and expected, not out of nowhere. Also, none of the corny, heart-touching moments ever made me cringe or feel it was out of place. Plus, it's gotta be one of the more creative plots/films out there with the whole Lair bit.

So, log off, empty your change jar and go watch it!

...WHAT TO NOT

Zack and Miri Make a Porno. As much as I like Kevin Smith, he truly bombed on this one.
Let me save you the money by describing the three best scenes in the movie:

1) Coffee house scene in the very beginning with Seth Rogan, his boss, and the warehouse dude from The Office (Darryl). The scene's not even that great or funny, but compared to the rest of the movie, it's (insert any movie here, because anything is better than this crap).

2) Mac guy, Justin Long's performance as a gay porn star. Pretty darn funny and gotta give him props--not his usual character at all!

3) Slow motion of Elizabeth Banks (Miri) watching Seth Rogan (Zack) head into the bedroom with another girl. Nothing Oscar-worthy here, but at least it didn't make me wanna puke.

And by puke, I'm not turned away by the shock of the nudity or crude jokes. No, I like that stuff. What I don't like is when a supposedly funny movie throws in stupid morals executed in an over-the-top fashion with enough cheese to run a pizza franchise. Don't get me wrong, I'm a girl, I love emotions and all that feel-good stuff, but not when it's done completely wrong. BARF!

K. Smith--you should go back to your roots. Make more movies where the dialogue is the main attraction, all the characters have the elements of being total losers and yet they're intellectual and articulate, and the plot is thin with not much going on except a lot of talk about nothing. Those movies made you shine, stick to them.
